GATE AR cutoff: qualifying marks for Architecture and Planning (2025 and 2026)

The GATE Architecture and Planning (AR) qualifying marks were 40 for the General category, 36 for OBC-NCL and EWS, and 26.6 for SC, ST and PwD in both GATE 2025 and GATE 2026 (out of 100). These are the marks needed for a score card. They are not admission cutoffs, which each institute sets for its own programmes.

Last updated: 24 Oct 2026. Figures are from the official GATE cut-off pages linked below. The GATE 2027 figures will be added after the results on 19 March 2027.

GATE AR qualifying marks by year

Year Organising institute Candidates registered Candidates appeared General OBC-NCL / EWS SC / ST / PwD
GATE 2026 IIT Guwahati 10,673 8,415 40 36 26.6
GATE 2025 IIT Roorkee 10,898 8,501 40 36 26.6

The OBC-NCL and EWS figure is 90% of the General figure, and the SC, ST and PwD figure is about two-thirds of it. The official GATE 2026 FAQ states that the EWS qualifying mark is 90% of the General candidates’ mark.

What the qualifying marks mean

  • They decide who gets a score card. The official GATE 2026 FAQ says the score card is issued only to candidates whose marks are equal to or above the SC, ST and PwD qualifying marks for that paper.
  • A General candidate needs the General figure to count as qualified in that category. The lower figures apply to the other categories.
  • The score card is valid for three years from the date of release, per the official FAQ.
  • Candidates below the cutoff can still download a performance report at a later date, according to the same FAQ.

Qualifying marks are not admission cutoffs

Qualifying marks only show who qualified in GATE. Admission to M.Plan, M.Arch and similar programmes is decided by each institute, which may combine the GATE score with a portfolio, interview, written test or work experience, and sets its own closing scores. Read the institute’s admission notice for the programme you are applying to. For the three SPAs, see M.Plan admission through GATE.

Recruitment is separate again. Some PSU and institute notices use a GATE score for shortlisting and others do not. See the guide to government exams and jobs for architects and town planners.

What this means for GATE AR 2027

  • The 2027 exam is scheduled for 6–7, 13–14 and 20–21 February 2027, with results on 19 March 2027, per the official IIT Madras calendar. See the exam calendar.
  • The qualifying marks change each year with the paper, so treat 40 as the last two years’ General figure, not a fixed target. See how marks become a GATE score.
  • The syllabus has been revised for 2027. Check the GATE AR syllabus page and practise with the previous year papers.

Where the figures come from

Earlier years are not listed here because the organising institutes’ official pages were not available when this page was written, and the figures reported elsewhere do not agree.
